I’ve had the clutch replaced as part of the massive trans recall issues that affect almost all the autotragic Fiestas/Focii and it STILL shifts like an apoplectic asshole. Sometimes I pretend the jerkiness and unpredictability is really just what it would feel like if it was a manuel being driven hard (and rather poorly), a la race ST. I know it’s not, but... I’m stuck with it for now. :/

It has an Oppo sticker on it, though. Does that count?

Pretend it’s a DCT so the jerky shifts are a selling point.

Oppo always counts. A++

Kinja'd!!!1

No need to pretend. It *is* a DCT. It utilizes dry clutches, which have been found to be part of the problem, as well as leaky seals and bad TCMs.

Also, funny story. I took it in for the dealership to address a handful of recalls, including the trans. They were “done” with it in one day. When I asked the service dude if they had checked out the trans, because one day seemed awful fast for that fix, he said, and I quote, “We don’t go looking for problems in people’s cars,” and tried to say that the extended warranty offered by Ford was just “in case” something went wrong. Mind you, the transmission was among my complaints with the vehicle.

When I then proceeded to tell him about the issues I’d increasingly been having with the car, he pulled out a packet of papers for me to “learn how DCT engines work.”

I’m sure you can imagine the withering look I gave him at that. I made them take the car again, and needless to say, the clutches were borked.

It took three MONTHS to get a replacement. It’s been several months since then, and the transmission is starting to act up again, so I think the fix Steve Lehto talked about hoping would be a permanent one during his podcast a couple of weeks ago appears not to be so permanent after all.

Might want to look into the process for lemon law filings. What a PITA. I can deal with just about anything wrong on a car but I won’t abide transmission problems. Luckily the E46 managed to ignore any transmission issues it may or may not have.
